Mark Newton, who, with my daughter Becky Esterle, is refitting a Columbia34 Mk II, has designed and had built a mast plate for the boat. This plate was heavily constructed on stainless steel plate and sits under the original mast step. Mark had the mast step powder coated to minimize any chance of corrosion between the stainless steel and the aluminum. The holes on the upturned edges are for mounting turning blocks to lead the halyards aft to the cockpit.
