Lazy Jacks

<Home> <700 Sails & Rigging>

 Hey all,

I'm planning on setting up some lazy jacks on my C26mkII following
the great instructions by Dan Johnson on the unofficial Columbia
Yachts website at:

http://www.columbia-yachts.com/C26-27lazyjack.html.

I've never used lazy jacks before and really like the idea of
the "cradle" to help control the main as it is raised or lowered, but
what happens to the lazy jack lines once the sail is raised?  I'm
assuming the lines are retracted and fall alongside the boom, but do
these need to be secured somehow?  If so, any ideas of how?  The foot
of my main has a rope luff so I couldn't just wrap a bungie around
the boom.

Thanks!
Brent

Brent,

Here is the URL for another version of Lazy Jacks. It's animated so it will
show you how they retract:

To stow the lazy jacks mount blocks on the mast for the main lines.Run the
main lines up and over the blocks and back down the mast then leave enough
tail on these lines so that you can slack them off and run the lazy jack
lines forward along the boom and bungee them around the mast or loop them
under a chock or cleat and tighten the main line up again.
I built a set for my Sabre1 last spring and used Dork Sahagians plans found
at WWW.columbia-yachts.com/lazyjacks.jpg . I also used a another site for
reference. This guys plans are more elaborate and you can stow the lazy
jacks from the cockpit but the best part is the animated part that shows how
they  operate. http://home.jps.net/~meischa3/fleet6/tips/skipslazyjacks.html
