I am interested in a C
39 or C 41
Any C 39 orC 41 owners out there that I can talk to about performance and
maintenance issues?
Thank you,
John Mull
Hi John,
You don't seem to be
getting much of a response. Unfortunately
these two
models had relatively small production runs, so there are fewer owners to
respond compared to other models
like the 43 and 45.
I spent an afternoon aboard a Col 39 sailing in light breezes in Florida.
The boat sailed well enough and
felt roomy below, but it wasn't very much of
a test.
I've never been aboard a Col 41.
It's interesting that you are asking about the Col 39 and Col 41.
The Col 39
is a Col 41 hull with a plug in
the mold to shorten the stern a little, so
there should be some
similarities. The big difference is
that the Col 39 is
an aft cockpit design and the Col
41 is a motorsailor.

Hi Eric,
Thank you for the response.
I was under the impression that the 39 was a responsive boat and was well
rated in the Port Huron to Mackinac Races.
The 39 being the same hull as the 41, yet the 41 is referred to as
motorsailor?
Is it the deckhouse that categorizes the 41 as a motorsailor? I have been to
the Columbia site, the only diffence I have been able to see compared to the
39 is a smaller sail area
by about 90 sq ft. the mast height is shorter by 7
feet on the 41.
Good Old Boat March 2004 made reference to the hull/deck 'H" joint details
at
the Columbia website, but I could not find any details about repair method.
If I were to permanently bond( fiberglass) that joint it looks like the H
channel, rub rail and rivets would all need to be removed before the the joint
could be glassed.
Thank you,
John Mull
